Staley Credit Union is owned by the members and operates solely for their benefit. Membership is open to those who live or work in counties surrounding the cities of Decatur, IL; Lafayette, IN; and Loudon, TN. Staley CU embraces the Credit Union philosophy of "People Helping People" for the benefit of its members.
History of Staley CU
Rising from the dust of the Great Depression, Staley CU began in 1930 as a humble endeavor to help create financial stability for employees of Staley Manufacturing Company. The fledgling Credit Union was a great boon to Staley employees who otherwise would have fared much worse from the economic downturn of the 1930s.
A.E. Staley, the founder of Staley Manufacturing Company, was a huge proponent for boosting employee morale, envisioning each employee feeling that they were a part of special empire.
The altruistic intentions behind Staley CU remain in place today, the benefits now going beyond company employees and on to the overall communities in various counties in Illinois, Indiana, and Tennessee.
Staley CU Today
We currently have about 48 full and part-time employees at our 6 separate branch locations: 3 in Decatur, Illinois; 2 in Lafayette, Indiana; and 1 in Loudon, Tennessee. The “Union Street” Lafayette branch served two A. E. Staley Manufacturing Company plants and now serves the 5 county area along with the newest “Veterans Memorial” branch. The Loudon branch is inside a Primient plant (formerly Tate & Lyle) which sits beside the Tennessee River.
The members of the Board of Directors are all volunteers which means they do not get paid for their services. Staley Credit Union currently has 9 board members who represent the membership. (Recent regulation changes now allow board members of Credit Unions to be paid, but we continue to have a 100% volunteer board). We have an annual audit conducted by a fully accredited accounting firm.
