Staley Credit Union was founded on July 7, 1930, so we are quickly approaching 100 years of service!

Ezra Carter told his wife there was no reason not to buy that new electric refrigerator. He could just borrow from the Credit Union and save money.

In 1965, the Credit Union moved into its own location at 440 North 22nd Street, Decatur, very close to the Staley Company plant.

In 1987, the field of membership was expanded to the 5-county area of Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, DeWitt and Shelby so that individuals who live, work, or worship in those counties were eligible for membership. That same year, along with the expanded membership area in Illinois, a new branch was added within the Staley plant in Loudon, TN, completing the “corridor” between Illinois, Indiana, and Tennessee.

A new location opened at 3330 North Woodford Street in 1993, which is the current Headquarters of Staley CU.

Staley Employees Credit Union changed its name to Staley Credit Union in 1997.*

Staley CU celebrated its 75th Anniversary in full Staley style with a community cleanup effort.*

In 2009, we opened a new branch on Union St. in Lafayette, Indiana with the expanded field of membership increasing to include the 5 Indiana counties of Tippecanoe, White, Carroll, Clinton and Montgomery.

In 2018, formal application was made to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to expand the field of membership. Once accepted, our membership area was increased to 26 counties in 3 states!

As of May 2021, we were $192 million in assets with over 16,000 members and on July 21, 2021, we celebrated our 91st anniversary!

In 2022, we opened our second branch on the southside of Lafayette, Indiana located at 3553 Promenade Parkway!

As of 2025, we have reached over $210 million in assets and now serve nearly 18,000 members. We’re thrilled to celebrate 95 years of serving our members!
